The Spiritus Draconis “Spirit of the Dragon” formally acknowledges and recognizes individuals who have exhibited outstanding performance, leadership, service, and notable contributions in their roles as Air Force Emergency Managers.

Nominee Criteria

In order to be eligible for the Spiritus Draconis a nominee must have been an Emergency Management professional working under the under the auspices of the Air Force Emergency Management (EM) Program. This includes Active Duty, Guard, Reserve members, civil service civilians, and contractors serving:

within an EM Flight
as an AF EM Instructor (i.e., 3E9 Technical School, Silver Flag, etc
as an AF EM functional or subject matter expert at HAF, DRU, FOA, PSU, MAJCOM, or AFISMC Detachment
as an EM Flight Officer

The nominee must be a member of the AFEM Association for at least one month prior to the nomination.

Note: Retirees that have served in the capacities listed above are also eligible to be nominated for Spiritus Draconis.

Be an AFEMA Lifetime Member or must be a member in good standing and have been a member for at least three years at the time of nomination.
Complete the applicable information on this site.
Include cost-share fees ($45) for the medallion, certificate, processing, and postage/handling costs. NOTE: The AFEM Association funds a portion of fees and the nomintor pays the remainder.

Nomination Fee

The AFEM Association partially funds the Spiritus Draconis award; however, the nominator is required to provide the remainder of the nomination fee. Nomination fee covers nominator’s cost share of medallion, certificate, processing, and all shipping and handling.

Fee is fully refundable if for some reason the application is not approved.

One Numbered Spiritus Draconis Medal and Certificate – $ 45.00
One Additional Unnumbered Spiritus Draconis Medal (for framing, display, etc) – $ 30.00

An unnumbered medal can only be purchased with proof of award; however, it will be automatically validated with this initial application, if approved. Future orders must include recipient’s name to validate.
