What does an Air Force Emergency Manager Do?
Air Force Emergency Managers are entrusted with the critical responsibility of developing wartime and contingency response strategies designed to protect personnel, resources, and mission capabilities. They create and maintain emergency management and disaster preparedness plans intended to minimize casualties, reduce damage, and ensure rapid recovery during natural disasters, military operations, industrial accidents, and other large-scale emergencies.
Their ultimate mission is to support mission continuity and enable the swift restoration of operations following an incident or disaster. Air Force Emergency Managers coordinate response and recovery efforts by mobilizing resources, collaborating with military and civilian agencies, and directing installation emergency management procedures during crises.
In addition to emergency response operations, Emergency Management professionals oversee contingency planning, manage specialized equipment and supplies, maintain readiness inventories, and conduct nuclear, biological, chemical, and radiological detection and warning activities.
A highly visible and essential part of the career field is training and education. Air Force Emergency Managers instruct installation personnel on emergency planning, response, protective actions, and recovery operations for both natural and man-made disasters. This training extends from individual preparedness to specialized emergency response teams, ensuring installations remain prepared to effectively respond to any hazard or threat.
